Legal Assistant (Office Automation)

If selected for this position, you will support Assistant United States Attorney's (AUSAs) by providing substantive assistance in complex grand jury matters. Duties include:
Provides expert advice on Grand Jury legal support work. Provides training, guidance and technical assistance to other legal support staff. Provides a variety of direct legal support to one or more AUSAs. Performs legal research for assigned cases. Prepares a wide variety of legal documents. Prepares and manages discovery, evidence, and trial exhibits. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. GS-8:
To be eligible at the GS-8 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing assistance to attorneys by preparing complaints, motions, subpoenas, orders, or other hearing and/or trial documents; preparing a variety of legal documents accurately and in proper format; using online legal resources for verifying citations, statutory references and factual research; and assisting with discovery, hearing, or trial preparation. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
