Legal Assistant (Office Automation)
If selected for this position, you will support Assistant United States Attorney's (AUSAs) by providing a wide variety of technical assistance services related to adversary proceedings and contested matters in bankruptcy. Duties include:
Provides expert advice on bankruptcy legal support work. Provides training, guidance and technical assistance to other legal support staff. Provides a variety of direct legal su pport to one or more AUSAs. Performs legal research for assigned cases. Prepares a wide variety of legal documents. Prepares and manages discovery, evidence, and trial exhibits. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. GS-8:
To be eligible at the GS-8 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as providing assistance to attorneys by preparing complaints, motions, subpoenas, orders, or other hearing documents accurately and in proper format; conducting legal research; verifying citations and statutory references contained in legal documents; preparation and management of evidence and discovery and assisting in trial preparation. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
