The Transportation Specialist will be responsible for the following:
Develop strong relationships with National Accounts and manage regular communication with customer transportation and operations departments to insure timely and compliant shipping of product
Analyze and maintain freight out costs and freight out charges to customers to insure coverage of burton costs and fair charges to dealers and direct consumers
Participate in negotiations with internal and external sales and customers as it regards our shipping policy and customer requests for compliance to their routing guides
Participate in negotiations for freight out with core carriers, understand our contracts and consider options to optimize service and cost in US and Canada
Benchmark cost and service performance of our carriers to best in class and target new initiatives for continuous improvement
Represent the organization as the Business Process Owner for Transportation
Work with 3PL to manage the outbound shipping dock and implement best industry practices and continuous improvement initiatives
Manage drop shipments from port to customer door (order visibility, document flow, billing, liaison with freight forwarder and customer)
Analyze and maintain shipping conditions in SAP
Maintain DC processing and transit times within SAP
Assist in any special projects that need transportation expertise i.e. Christmas gift, marketing projects, catalogs etc.
Manage special shipping programs initiated by sales or retail/e-com and oversee special program execution with Distribution Center, internal customers and partners and carriers as needed
Use third party audit services to insure service level performance, to run reports and to identify any savings opportunities
Benchmark cost and service performance of our carriers to best in class and target new initiatives for continuous improvement
Qualified candidates will possess the following:
Thorough working knowledge of domestic transportation
Expertise in MS Office ( Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
SAP knowledge desirable
Strong customer service skills
Ability to speak effectively and present information to customers, carriers, vendors and other members of the organization
Ability to multi-task in a high volume environment
Ability to solve problems and use sound judgment/decision making under minimal supervision.
5-10 years experience dealing with a high volume order fulfillment and traffic environment (3PL DC, pick/pack/ship, customer driven compliance requirements etc.)
Strong analytical skills for researching, tracking, modelling and managing data
Relevant business degree and/or experience
Project management skills/experience a plus
English, and French is helpfulEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
