org/job-opportunities The Green Mountain Audubon Center in Huntington seeks experienced teachers, early childhood educators, and naturalists for an opportunity to work in a day camp setting.
The Preschool Nature Camp Educator will work with 3- to 5-year-old children as they explore the forests, brooks, meadows, and ponds on the Center's 252 acres.
This half-day camp focuses on a different theme each week.
The mornings are filled with stories, nature walks, puppet shows, games, and full-sensory immersion in the natural world.
The Educator will be responsible for teaching outdoor programs, developing camp activities, and working effectively as part of a dynamic camp team.
Audubon will challenge you to enhance your teaching and mentoring skills while encouraging you to share the wonder of exploring the most magical places at Audubon.
Camp runs for 7 weeks, and instructors work for 25 hours each week.
Camp Schedule:
Training Week:
June 16-20, 2014 Camp:
June 23-27 & July 7-August 15, 2014 (7 weeks; no camp the week of June 30-July 4)
Essential Functions:
-Attend a camp training week led by professional Audubon Teacher/Naturalists.
-Develop and implement seven weeks of nature-based camp activities.
-Act as a mentor to high school counselors-in-training.
-Write a final evaluation of your camp experience by August 15.
Qualifications and
Experience:
-Experience developing and leading outdoor activities, as well as working with preschool-aged children.
-Demonstrated knowledge of Vermont natural history.
-Love of outdoor exploration and questioning; ability to model curiosity and wonder about the natural world.
-Ability to work well as part of a team.
-Excellent organizational and communication skills.
-Must have reliable transportation.
Preferred
Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Education or related field preferred.
-Singing and storytelling experience, as well as previous summer camp experience.
-Experience making crafts and art from natural materials.
